Don requested a custom wheelset that would be light enough and durable enough for daily riding. He is gearing up for a gran fondo in the warm southern US, and asked me to ship him this wheelset. H Plus Son Archetype rims. 460g each. Tune Mig 70 front hub, radially laced with Sapim CX-Rays, 24 spokes. Rear wheel is matching Tune Mag 170, 28 holes. It’s laced to the Archetype rim with Wheelsmith DB-14 2.0/1.7/2.0 butted spokes, cross-three drive side, and Sapim Laser 2.0/1.5/2.0 butted spokes non-drive with two-cross pattern. This is a common pattern for Zed with a 28 hole build. Durable, and good balance of lightweight with the non-drive. The wheelset with rim tape is 1440g.
It’s not difficult to see why the H Plus Son Archetype is taking the custom builder scene by storm. It’s solid, with high quality machining, perfectly welded joint and nice anodizing. The rim built up very nicely with even tension easy to accomplish. No fighting, no fuss.
I’m sure this is only the beginning for H Plus Son.
